Romans 8:31
If God is for us, who can be against us?
Week 1– Dare to Be Daniel
Is it always easy to do the right thing?
Sometimes we face situations where it is easier to go along with what everyone else is doing. Daniel set a great example for us. He did the right thing even when no-one else was.
Read Daniel 1:1-8
What happened to Daniel and his friends was not fair. Daniel could have been pitiful, angry and even upset at God for what had happened to him.
Instead of feeling sorry for himself and compromising, Daniel served God faithfully, and he was rewarded.
-Talk about some things that happen to us that aren’t fair. Maybe you have an example of something recently.
-We can’t control everything that happens to us but we can control how we handle it. Making good choices in the midst of unfair circumstances is a great way to show the world Jesus.
-Make a real effort this week to not fall into pity or complaining, and instead, ask God to show you what He is wanting to teach you.
Week 2- The Lion’s Den
Guess how old Daniel was when He got put in the lion’s den?
80 years old!!!
This means for many decades Daniel had been living faithfully for Jesus in Babylon. Remember nobody served Jesus in Babylon. God had blessed and rewarded Daniel even in unfair circumstances. Daniel was now in charge of the Kingdom under King Darius. This is a great reminder for us that God’s favor doesn’t mean everything is easy and wonderful. His favor means that He is with us and He works all things together for good. Favor is having the peace of God even in the midst of unfair, not fun circumstances.
-Compromise- a settlement of differences in which each side gives something up. Sometimes compromise is necessary and good, but not when it involves giving up truth.
Read Romans 12:2
When we conform, we compromise.
-Take some time this week to discuss good compromise and bad compromise.
Week 3- Jealousy is an open door to disorder and every evil practice. James 3:16
-What are some things you struggle with being jealous over. How someone else looks, cool stuff they have, friends…
-We have to catch the thoughts of jealousy like 2 Corinthians 10 says and make them obedient. When jealousy goes untreated it can turn into some really ugly actions.
Read Daniel 6:1-10
-These guys were so jealous that it leads to them actually wanting Daniel dead. Wow!
-Take some time this week and ask God to show you if there is jealousy in your heart. Repent and renew your mind.
Week 4-The Impact of My Faithfulness
So, King Darius has put Daniel in the Lion’s Den and was very sad about it.
-Read Daniel 6:19-28
-One man’s faithfulness impacted an entire kingdom.
Your faithfulness, honesty, good character is never just about you. Just like the jealous men whose decision impacted all of their family. So sad.
The choices we make and the decisions of our heart will always affect people around us.
-Take some time this week to reflect on good choices and bad choices, and how they affected your family, friends, church…
